Aluminium windows typically last 40 to 50 years, compared with around 25 to 30 years for PVC, and the strength of aluminium allows narrower profiles and bigger glazing. If you only need standard-sized windows on a tight budget, PVC can be the better choice.
Aluminium usually costs about 30 to 50% more than an equivalent PVC solution. The exact difference depends on size, system, glazing and colour. Aluminium is worth the extra if you want large glazing, slim profiles, big sliding doors, a modern look and minimal maintenance.
Not when they are thermally broken. Modern aluminium profiles have an insulating polyamide barrier between the outer and inner parts, so heat does not pass straight through the frame. With good glazing, aluminium systems reach very low U-values, including passive house level.
